SoftSpace History

We have been in business for 20 years now. However, we were not always called SoftSpace. We have evolved many times in the last two decades. The company was born from humble beginnings in Portland, Maine in what seems like a life time ago.

In 1994, the company was created by Gloria Clark, John Mesko, and Steve Andrews. The company name was “FMC CADD”. We did CAD drawings and facility mapping.

In 1998, we began discovering that there was a huge demand for our work to be printed on paper. Instead of continuing to send people elsewhere, we evolved and became “FMC QUAD”. We introduced printing and copying. We also introduced the first color scanner to the state of Maine. This was a major hit and business began to boom!

A couple years later, our business kept changing with the demands of our customers. We would adapt to any request. Before long, we were not only using CAD to map for companies, but we were developing and manufacturing exhibits for our clients to attend trade shows. These demands gave birth to “FMC Exhibit Fabricators”.

We started to realize that this is where we were supposed to be. This began to take over most of our business. So in 2001, “SoftSpace” was born. The business began to grow as our client base expanded across the county.
